The Philosophy of Stoicism | Seneca on True Happiness

Stoicism can help us find true happiness. Seneca tells us that true happiness can only be found within the present moment. A lesson that parallels certain teachings of Buddhism. If we truly wish to be happy Stoicism invites us to stop our worrying about the future. The stoic emperor Marcus Aurelius said: "Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." Inviting us to not be in constant worry about the future. When it arrives we will be ready for it. The dichotomy of control tells us that all we have in out control is how we react to the present moment. Living in a mind created future does not help you with your stoic pursuit of tranquility. The philosophy of stoicism is starting to gain immense popularity due to how pragmatic it is. People are starting to use the stoic teachings that were popularized by the greats: Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus in there day to day lives. As a result stoicism has began changing lives as it begins to show its face into the mainstream.
